Rahul Chaudhry & Partners was established. Investigators trained by the firm start to carry out IP surveys and investigations

1983

Successfully used survey evidence for the first time in a contested passing-off matter (Sears Roebuck & Co. v. Happy Homes Products)

1992

Won the celebrated Whirlpool case, which established the concept of trans-border reputation in India

1994

Expanded RCY’s Intellectual Property practice with the establishment of a Gurugram Office in the ‘Millennium City’, in the National Capital Region. Set up the Blanco White Library, perhaps the biggest library on intellectual property in the country

2000

In the landmark judgment of Strix Limited v. Maharaja Appliances, RCY successfully argued that in order to raise a credible challenge to the validity of a patent, even at an interlocutory stage, the Defendant will have to place on record some acceptable scientific material, supported or explained by the evidence of an expert, that the Plaintiff’s patent is prima facie vulnerable to revocation

2009

While representing Heinz against Stokely Van Camp, RCY was successful in arguing that a claim for infringement shall not lie in respect of advertising slogans, even if registered, when they comprise of dictionary words and any such attempt should be struck down with a heavy hand

2010

Successfully transitioned from being family run legal practice to a professionally managed law firm

2011

Established its Corporate Practice for commercial & transactional legal advisory services

2013

Expanded the firm’s footprint with the establishment of a New Delhi Office and fortified and expanded its patent practice with induction of experienced engineers, scientists and patent agents

2014

Ventured into Non IP Litigation services

2015

Switching to 100% automated IP management systems

2018

Expanded the firm’s footprint by establishing an office in Mumbai, India’s financial and commercial capital

2023

Strengthened the firm’s capabilities with the establishment of the Media & Entertainment Law Practice
